Bumped into this photo while working on other social media shares. On our way back from our backpacking trip in the Redwoods several years ago, Scott & I made a quick stop at Big Sur. After I closed the public restroom door behind me I looked up & around, realizing I was surrounded by the biggest Crane Flies I'd ever seen! I wanted to take a photo w/ my phone, but there were other women there so didn't want to make them feel uncomfortable. Not sure if they even noticed b/c I'm sure there would've been some screams & squeals. 😱

Luckily, there was one just outside the doors for Scott to quickly shoot before it flew away. Mind you, this Crtr was the smaller of the bunch I saw previously.

Next day, we took our little @bugeyedmutant for a scenic cruise & a short hike to Potem Falls. We also dressed her up with her couz, @abbiemcgee2011, for a @forest2seapetphotography holiday nature photoshoot at a creek nearby. Not a bad way to end the year. .

In between Part 3 and Part 4 of our FJ Cruiser overlanding build-out, @CrtrGrl and I did a trial run of our new roof rack and roof top tent. We wanted to try out sleeping in the tent and the new roof rack. Our plan was to do a couple of nights of dispersed camping out in the Anza-Borrego Desert State Park and try things out. While it was beautiful there, the wind was stronger than we were and we had to retreat!

(Swipe to see photos) Uncovering our skoolie to prep for our tiny home build, we were met by smaller Crtrs like crickets, gnats, tiny spiders, etc. After laying down the super large tarp, we used to cover the bus, I started to sweep debris off it so we can fold it up & tuck it away. Scott @undrpressrphoto then yelled out that I was going to hit a spider with the broom.

I wasn't wearing my glasses, but I'm still surprised I couldn't see this big girl, what seems to be a Golden Huntsman Spider (Olios fasciculatus). Scott ran to get the camera, while I kept her safely under the hut I made with my hands. She was incredibly patient, but we made the photoshoot quick to avoid pissing her off.

Once we were done, I guided her to my gloved hands to move her to a safer spot. Well, that didn't go as smoothly as I wanted. She decided to take a detour & took a seat on my upper arm. I'm not gonna lie, those intimidating chelicerae (where the fangs are housed) made me sweat just a tad. I was already concerned I was agitating her too much in trying to move her to the ground.
Luckily, she didn't feel threatened by me & scurried away under earth's carpet.

Bite Size Factoids: AKA Giant Crab Spider, (Olios giganteus). They're ambush predators found on ground or even on the walls of your home, hunting for grub. They're able to give a painful bite. Depending on the species some can leave you with serious side effects. They're diet can consist of small lizards, insects, & amphibians. Just be respectful & gentle when handling this & any Crtr. Not that I've never been bitten, but, for the most part, it's been a positive experience.

We chose to celebrate our last #southerncalifornia dinner at our fave #vegangrub @eveveganeats. #bestseatinthehouse. SQUASH BLOSSOM TACOS, YIPPEE-KI-YAY BURGER & raw Pumpkin Cheesecake. It got messy, finger lickin good. Our bellies got so full we were hurting, yet wanting more. 🤤

This was an awesome way to end our time here in #northcountysandiego! Time to catch up on zzzz to wake up to a long ride with our 3 rug rats. Crossing fingers Ash (our cat) eventually calms down during the drive there. 🤞 She's not a fan of car rides. .

The man @undrpressrphoto & I will be ending our Carlsbad life in just a couple of days & beginning our new lives, starting in Shasta County. There, w/ the help of our family, we will be building out our tiny home bus, @skooliewoolie & begin our mobile pet photography business @forest2seapetphotography.
We're working on another idea as I write this post, but it's still in its beginning stages. I'll keep you posted.

Our goal is to settle in the #PacificNorthwest & enjoy a life, off grid, surrounded by wildlife, volunteering whenever, wherever we can to help our planet. All the while, earning passive income from some ideas we have hidden up our sleeves. We've been overwhelmed w/ mixed emotions, but of course we're super excited!

As usual, our nature, overland, & skoolie adventures will be shared on Scott's website (link in his bio) & social media. Stay tuned for our #PNW adventures & our 1st trial camping run w/ Greyjoy (FJ overland adventure mobile). We're working on getting these ready for you to read/view. Of course, all Crtrs we continue to meet & animal/nature advocacy will continue to be shared on my website (link in bio) & social media. .

Our cruelty free lifestyle journey will continue to be shared on @biggreenheartmovment. We've made some updates to share a more personal experience rather than just focusing on the products alone (link in BGH bio).

In the meantime, it's time to pack, enjoy our last night out in N. County S.D. & move on to our next chapter in our lives. Shasta County here we come...

We were really encouraged by the turnout and enthusiasm of our Carlsbad, Vista and Oceanside neighbors! It was also great to see the youth getting involved, as they have the most at stake. And of course, there were some brilliant protest signs!

Scott @undrpressrphoto & I met a wonderful couple, Tom & Carolyn, at this past year's Four Paws conference & remain friends today. On one of our phone calls, Tom surprised us when he changed the conversation to express how sorry he is to have taken part in leaving our earth in the situation it is right now. We tried to explain to him that we are also responsible, but he really took it to heart that his generation should've done something & they didn't. .
.
It took such courage to admit, as a human tenant of earth, you are responsible for the consequences of decisions made in the past, BUT these decisions are still continued today. We must not behave like, "What can 1 person do any way" or "I'm not going to be alive by then..."

It is a shame how many pet owners chain their dogs to trees and cars or leave their cats and other animals behind to face hurricanes on their own, as they leave for safety. The images of dead & dying animals of the Amazon rainforest shared across social media, are absolutely gut wrenching! Earth is weeping & we're causing all of it! It doesn't get more evil than humans. If the devil were real, he'd barb wire his hell making sure no human enters his gates. .

It is so easy to continue on with your life when you think this horror doesn't affect you at all. Ignorance may be bliss, but it's only temporary. Sooner than later, we will be forced to face the consequences of our actions, it's already happening. .
.
I know change is difficult & for many, an inconvenience, but it is our responsibility to care for our planet. Yeh, most of us luv the taste of meat. When shopping, we don't want to do the research of what items don't contain ingredients that are harming our planet. We are a lazy, selfish, gluttonous, lost bunch.

I wonder how many of you would change drastically if the horror, nature is faced with every second of every day, came knocking at your door. What if your home & neighborhood was set on fire deliberately? One moment all was calm & pristine only to be blown up, leaving you to watch your loved ones running, trying to escape, screaming in pain & terror. All the while, big corporations & governments are counting the money they're shoving their fat pockets with. .

But, those in power are only in power because of supporters & consumers like us. If we become the change, these savages would crumble. Yeh, change is tough, but it's time you give a fuck because if we continue down this path, you'll be forced to change, if you're lucky. .

More & more, bus life, living off grid, away from society, is def where I need to be. I'd rather die with nature than spend another second with society. Society is a fucking, crazy breed & I gladly don't fit in.
